Custom cuts for your unique hair

I specialize in curly hair via dry haircutting, and believe that it can be a powerful tool for allowing your hair to flourish in its natural state. When working this way I can give haircuts and styling routines that are predictable, low maintenance, and low frustration. I have been offering custom haircuts for curly hair since 2004, and would love to work with you on your hair journey.

Although the majority of my cuts are done dry, I am brand and method agnostic, and will collaborate with you on the tools and methods used to achieve your goals. Whether it’s your first time getting a curl cut, or your 100th, I’ll always work with you to make sure you’re getting the most out of your hair.

The Curl Experience with Jen

Before Your Appointment

To work with your hair, I need to see how it behaves and how you work with it- even if you currently aren’t happy with the result. I create haircuts on curly hair by using the natural flow of your hairs density, pattern, surface texture, cowlicks, and how it reacts to water and products. If any of these are hidden from buns, braids, a ponytail, sleeping on wet hair, switching your styling routine at the last minute, etc, it impedes my ability to give you a truly customized dry cut and styling lesson. I ask that you dedicate the time to ensuring your hair is prepared for our appointment so that I can give you my best work.

  1. Wash Your Hair

Use your current cleanser and conditioner, rinsing throughly

  2. Apply Your Products

A light layer of what you rely on most often, skipping aerosol hairspray or sticky/waxy stylers. Please do not twist/twirl/rope/ribbon/pin curl or alter the natural curl pattern.

  3. Dry Your Hair

Air dry if thats your usual method, or diffuse if thats your preference. Just make sure you leave enough time to fully dry before arriving at the studio.

If you have an early morning appointment, please follow the steps the day before and use a bonnet or scarf to help preserve your curls while sleeping. If you have questions, please email me at least 72 hours before your appointment.
